With the aim of increasing the security of its infrastructure, the Direção Regional da Cultura do Alentejo implemented the ModSecur Smart IT Rack, a modular and scalable solution designed specifically for the needs of this organization. This implementation ensures greater efficiency and protection for their systems and data.
The Direçao Regional de Cultura do Alentejo (DRCA), based in Évora, is a peripheral service of the direct administration of the Government, endowed with administrative autonomy. Its mission is to create conditions for access to cultural goods, monitor activities and oversee artistic production structures funded by cultural services and organizations, monitor actions related to the safeguarding, enhancement, and dissemination of immovable, movable, and intangible cultural heritage, and provide support to museums.
Evident structural needs
Previously, the data network was stored in an incorrect way, with a clear need to ensure the security of assets and place them in a controlled environment. “We only had a rack without proper climate control located near a high-risk flooding area. In order to increase our security, we sought a solution from the market that would meet our needs,” said Luis Peneirol, responsible for the IT department of DRCA.
The implementation of the ModSecur Smart IT Rack
DRCA was looking for a secure solution that would ensure redundancy of the most important systems, and it was essential to ensure that the infrastructure remained functional in case of downtime of any of the critical systems in the data center.
The choicewas the ModSecur Smart IT Rack engineered by Maxiglobal. It is a 100% Portuguese product available in 24U to 47U racks, featuring a modular, scalable, and redundant construction. The solution implemented at DRCA consists of a 42U IT rack that incorporates a redundant DX (direct expansion) cooling system, redundant uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for power distribution, environmental monitoring, and alarm systems. To ensure maximum infrastructure security and prevent unauthorized access, the ModSecur Smart IT Rack is equipped with smart card access control.
The advantages of the solution
The three highlighted benefits of this implementation, as mentioned by Luis Peneirol, are “the security provided by the solution, the introduction of climate control, and the monitoring system.” The new infrastructure at DRCA is equipped with ModSecur EMS, a management system that enables real-time monitoring of the infrastructure. This solution helps optimize resource utilization, improves energy efficiency, and ensures data center availability. Real-time alerts can be sent, helping to reduce downtime and minimize the impact of any issues in the data center.
Project successfully completed with success
DRCA is highly satisfied with the completion of the project. “From the proposal presentation to its delivery, Maxiglobal demonstrated great professionalism. They were always committed to providing us with what we desired, even when faced with challenges related to the installation location of the solution,” concludes Luis Peneirol.
