A success story: how the implementation of the ModSecur Micro Datacenter contributed to the technological modernization of Casa da Malha

The company from Barcelos, established in 2017, experienced rapid growth and needed to upgrade its technological infrastructure. The implementation of the ModSecur Micro Datacenter engineered by Maxiglobal brought increased security to the infrastructure.

Casa da Malha is a Portuguese textile company specializing in the production of high-quality knitwear. Since its inception, it has stood out not only for the superior quality of its products but also for its constant innovation, environmental and social responsibility, and long-term relationships with customers.

Over the years, the company has invested in technology to enhance its production processes, ensuring not only the highest quality of products but also more efficient production. Additionally, it boasts a highly qualified and committed team constantly seeking innovations to meet the needs of an ever-evolving market. The company is dedicated to creating and providing high-quality textile experiences, utilizing its technical expertise in product development through open and transparent collaborations among employees, customers, and suppliers to promote comfort and style.

Faced with rapid and even unexpected growth, Casa da Malha recognized the need to improve its technological infrastructure, not only to meet current requirements but also to prepare for the future. “Previously, we had a very small room with a rack, an air conditioner, and a UPS. There was no fire protection, access control, or redundancy,” says Tiago Neiva, Systems Administrator at Casa da Malha.

The choice of the ModSecur brand

“We went to the market looking for a solution that would offer the best guarantees for the future,” says Tiago Neiva. The choice fell on the ModSecur Micro Datacenter. “We opted for this solution because if one day we need to move the data center, it will be possible to do so easily. With a traditional data center, it would be different. The portability and scalability of this solution, combined with an excellent cost/benefit ratio, were the decisive factors in our choice,” he adds.

The ModSecur Micro Datacenter implemented at Casa da Malha includes redundant cooling and backup power systems, a fire detection and extinguishing system, physical and logical security, and a DCIM management system (ModSecur EMS) that allows remote monitoring of the infrastructure in real-time. The redundancy of the equipment ensures high availability.

“The solution seemed interesting to us considering its capacity – 84 Us available. The fact that it is an evolving product also appealed to us. We feel that acquiring the ModSecur Micro Datacenter is looking to the future,” says Tiago Neiva.

Infrastructure prepared for all scenarios

The ModSecur Micro Datacenter is certified IP65 and IK10. Compliance with the IP65 standard ensures that the data center equipment is protected against dust ingress, maintaining a clean environment free of harmful particles. This certification also ensures that the data center can withstand water ingress, guaranteeing operational continuity and equipment safety. The IK10 rating indicates that the data center has high resistance to shocks and vandalism.

Given that Casa da Malha’s data center is installed in the manufacturing area, these protection features are critically important. They ensure the integrity of the equipment and the continuity of IT services, even in challenging conditions.

This project was implemented in partnership with PCTI – Consultoria Informática, a firm specializing in cybersecurity and data protection, which was responsible for creating a high-availability server cluster with centralized storage. Additionally, they set up virtual machines, switch redundancy, fiber connections, a disaster recovery server, and a new backup system.

Casa da Malha’s new data center features 2N redundancy in its main components and is an “all swappable” solution, ensuring total availability at all times, including during preventive and corrective maintenance, with an MTTR (Mean Time to Repair) of less than 5 minutes.

“The strengths we identified are the alarm system, which allows us to know everything that is happening at any moment, robustness, and security,” says Tiago Neiva.

A national brand with a proven track record

The implementation of the ModSecur Micro Datacenter project proceeded without any unforeseen issues. “From the beginning, we placed a lot of trust in the ModSecur brand: it’s a national brand, has a strong presence in the market, and boasts a very experienced team that consistently demonstrated competence and organization. They managed the work very well and acted with great precision,” concludes Tiago Neiva.
